Book Tour with Giveaway: The Fortune Teller by Gwendolyn Womack

The Fortune Teller

Gwendolyn Womack

Genre: Romance Thriller

Semele Cavnow appraises antiquities for an exclusive Manhattan auction house, deciphering ancient texts―and when she discovers a manuscript written in the time of Cleopatra, she knows it will be the find of her career. Its author tells the story of a priceless tarot deck, now lost to history, but as Semele delves further, she realizes the manuscript is more than it seems. Both a memoir and a prophecy, it appears to be the work of a powerful seer, describing devastating wars and natural disasters in detail thousands of years before they occurred.

The more she reads, the more the manuscript begins to affect Semele’s life. But what happened to the tarot deck? As the mystery of her connection to its story deepens, Semele can’t shake the feeling that she’s being followed. Only one person can help her make sense of it all: her client, Theo Bossard. Yet Theo is arrogant and elusive, concealing secrets of his own, and there’s more to Semele’s desire to speak with him than she would like to admit. Can Semele even trust him?

The auction date is swiftly approaching, and someone wants to interfere―someone who knows the cards exist, and that the Bossard manuscript is tied to her. Semele realizes it’s up to her to stop them: the manuscript holds the key to a two-thousand-year-old secret, a secret someone will do anything to possess.

An Excerpt from the Book

She shut the door and leaned back against the heavy wood and closed her eyes.

“Daydreaming?”

Startled, she turned to find Theo standing in the doorway of his father’s study. He was waiting for her. He had changed into slacks and another sweater. Her eyes reflexively swept over him, but then she caught herself.

“Did you have a chance to take a last tour around the house before you’re off?” A knowing look danced in his eyes.

Semele’s heart hammered in her chest. He had seen her upstairs. “I—I . . . I wanted to look at your Orbis. . . .” She hesitated, thinking that didn’t sound right.

“Did you? Look?” He walked towards her.

She watched him close the distance between them. “Is it really an original?” She hated how nervous she sounded. Her conscience screamed for her to back up, to look away, to figure out how to the leave the room, but she couldn’t resist the spell that was weaving itself around them.

“I’m afraid this house is full of surprises,” he said softly. “God knows I shouldn’t be down here.” His hand came up and trailed along her cheek. “Tell me to go.”

The desire in his eyes made her forget every thought running through her mind. She wanted him—had wanted him from the first moment they met. Their lips locked, seeking each other, and the tension that had been building between them all these weeks turned into an insatiable dance. It was as though a hand reached insider her and turned her like a spinning top.

Excerpt From the Book

“How would you bring in new business, though?”

I’m amazed that he seems to find our conversation interesting. He’s an audience willing to listen and I’ve not had that in a long time. Damn this crush of mine. It won’t be easy to tame after tonight.

“New menu items, specials, things like that. Start serving dessert, like pies. Easy cook items. With the new burgers I’ve created and a new décor, I’d open in the summer when the air is fresh and everyone is happy to be out of the snow, hungry for grilled food. I think we could do fine.”

“What’s your hold up?”

“Tony, Dad. It’s complicated.” I shrug. His arm feels good, and I have the overwhelming urge to nuzzle against it. "Did you kiss Amy Parker when you were twelve? She still brags about it." Did I just ask him about kissing? What is wrong with me? Will this mouth of mine never shut up? Stop it, Stop it, stop it!

"That I did, in a closet over at Robert Anderson’s house."

"Ew."

"I was twelve and desperate. You can't blame me. I do blame that stupid soda bottle.  And your first kiss?" There is a challenge in his voice.

"Kevin Monroe at the Klines Movie Theater. He sent me a six-page note the next day about how much he loved me, and I freaked out and dumped him."

"Any regrets?"

I choke back a giggle. "Naw, ‘cept I remember I liked his cologne. It could have been aftershave, but it was nice." It’s not half as nice as the Aramis that Patrick has on. Something about it sends a shiver up my spine that has nothing to do with the zombie waiting in Dad’s office.

"The dark isn't so bad, now is it?"

"I guess not."

Silence surrounds us. The fear that enveloped me seems to disappear.

"Are you seeing anyone?"

"No." It sounds terrible now that I've said it out loud. Like I’m admitting to being a desperate and dateless leper.

"So," he drawls out, "ever thought of dating a military guy?" He squeezes my fingers.

Is he serious?

His fingertip smooths over the rough callouses I've gained from years of hard work. Suddenly my wasted evening of not going out to celebrate is starting to look better. "I think it would depend on which military guy."

"You're killing me. You know that, don’t you?" His strangled tone only sets off a case of the giggles.

"Are you asking me out, Patrick?"

"Trying to, but you're not making it easy.” The challenge is back in his voice.

"I wouldn't mind a date or two,” I manage to squeak out. Breathe, Harper, just breathe, calmly through your nose, out your mouth. Sainted Mother of God, Patrick asked me out! I hit the jackpot! Now all I have to do is not hit him.

Alexander Sylvester Bracken, Duke of Bedford, has a mission: sail to the Mediterranean and track down Lady Hestia Cary’s missing father. An Excerpt From The Book

Cold, clammy fear gripped Hestia. “Are you saying even if I marry, Fredrick could still kill me and deny the marriage took place?”
“It’s a possibility. If Alex dies, Foxhall dies, who would society believe—me or the Earl of Pembrokeshire, as Cary would then be?”
Even on this sunny day the sky darkened in her vision. However, it made Hestia realize marriage would not necessarily save her. Only a marriage in England would.
“Then it seems pointless making a choice to marry when we reach Corfu. I’m not really any safer.”
Jacob turned from the railing to look at her. “You’re a brave woman. You fought off Connor, never giving up. Love is the grand prize, and if there is a chance Alex can erase his ghosts and leave his terrible past behind him, then your heart’s desire might be in your grasp.” He looked her in the eye. “Is he worth waiting for—fighting for?”
A smile formed on her lips. She didn’t even have to think. “Oh, he’s worth it.”
“That’s my girl. Don’t let Foxhall or Bedford decide your destiny, or Cary for that matter.”
Jacob was right. She’d been looking at this wrong. She was letting men dictate her life. First her father, then her experience at the hands of Murad, then Fredrick, and now Alex.

Book Tour with Excerpt and $10 Giveaway: Stormy Weather by Glen Ebisch

From Multi-Published Mystery Author
Glen Ebisch
A mysterious death involving a meteorologist...
Can she weather the storm brewing in the horizon?
Stormy Weather
STORMY WEATHER
Glen Ebisch
Genre: Mystery
Publisher: The Wild Rose Press
Publication Date: January, 2017
A dead meteorologist leads to stormy weather.
When the body of Travis Lambert, senior meteorologist, is found buried in a shallow grave next to the house of Stormy McCloud, junior meteorologist, things look bad.
The station hires Chance Malone to investigate the murder, but her situation doesn't improve. Malone is attractive, charming, and funny, all qualities that her past experience with men has led her to avoid. It doesn't help that Stormy has little interest in religion, while Malone is the unusual detective that keeps a Bible in his desk drawer instead of a bottle of scotch.
When Stormy's estranged mother appears on the scene, things become even more complicated. As they discover more about the dark secrets of Travis's life, Stormy is forced to reconsider her view of men, her mother, and her future.
Author Glen Ebisch's mystery suspense crime novel, Stormy Weather is a first-rate thriller. I found a solid story-line, well-written, with well-developed characters, and plot lines which will hold the readers interest.

This book has quite a bit of mystery of where you reveal each piece a layer at a time. You learn one thing about the victim from his co-workers and then you dig a little deeper and you learn something else.

An Excerpt from the Book

Harriet Hughes, know around the station as Dirty Harry, shoved the microphone further toward my mouth as tough it were a giant cotton swab and she was reaching for a saliva sample. Not that she would have gotten much, nerves had already turned my mouth into the Sahara. In fact, as I stared across the yard, I began thinking that a trip to Timbuktu sounded pretty good right now. When the News on the Move truck has pulled up in front of my house a few minutes ago, I had expected that someone front the station had been following the police frequency and had come by to offer sympathy and support. Instead I had gotten Harry--vain, ambitious and thoroughly ruthless Harry.
“Did you know that Travis’ body was residing only ten feet from your kitchen?” Harry asked, nodding her head up and down as if that would encourage me to admit guilt.
“Of course not,” I replied hoarsely. I wasn’t even sure that dead bodies resided, It seemed to me that their residing days were over.
“Do you know who buried his body there?”
“No.”
“Do you know why someone would pick your property on which to do such a thing?”
I snapped. I reached out and gave the bulbous end of the microphone a sharp turn, imagining that I was twisting little Harry’s head right off her shoulders.
“Ouch,” Harry said, releasing the microphone into my hands.
I gave Sam, the cameraman, the cut sign. Although he had a crush on Harry that led him to obey her every whim, even he looked relieved to shut off the camera.
“C’mon, Victoria, this could be my big break,” Harry said in her shrill but now wheedling voice.
“Accusing me of murder is going to be your big break?”
“I’m not saying that you actually killed Travis. But you still might know who buried the body and be covering up for him or her.”
“You think I’d let a killer bury a murder victim practically on my front doorstep?”
“Maybe it was only temporary. You know, sure you can leave him there for a day or two, but he has to be gone by Friday. That sort of thing.”
“And I let him put the body right where my landlord is going to build a garage?”
“You probably forgot.”
She was right enough on that one. I remained silent.

Book Tour with Excerpt and Giveaway: Thicker Than Blood by Anne Marie Citro

I first featured Thicker Than Blood by Anne Marie Citro last month, a contemporary romance novel and Book 3 of her Sistas series.  I got intrigued by the synopsis so much, and thought I should look for some excerpts. Long story short, I managed to get it...it was a short excerpt so I managed to quickly go through it.  My verdict: Very promising indeed. Definitely looking forward to get my hands on it.

For those of you who are interested, here it is. Enjoy.

An Excerpt from the Book

“Hello?”
When no one answered, he pulled the phone back to make sure the connection hadn’t failed.
“Hello?” he asked again.
Dakota regretted calling the second she heard his voice. It was the middle of the night, and he was in bed with his girlfriend. Dumb. Dumb. Dumb. She had to say something, though, since she had woken up the poor guy. It was now or never.
Ever so softly, Caden heard, “C-Caden?” It took him a minute to register that it was Dakota.
His stomach dropped. Something was wrong.
“Dakota? Sweetheart, are you okay?” He patiently waited for her to say something as he walked through the living room to the sliding doors and out to the balcony. It was freezing outside, but he didn’t want to risk waking Sasha up by grabbing a sweatshirt.
Struggling, she stuttered, “Yes, I’m s-sorry. I sh-shouldn’t have c-called. I d-didn’t mean to w-wake you.”
Feeling panicked that she would end the call, he said, “Dakota, please don’t hang up. Talk to me. I’m here. I’m listening. You must have called for a reason.”
As he ran his free hand over his face, Caden heard her hiccup. She was crying.
Dakota was breaking his heart, but he had promised himself and Sasha that he would try to work things out between them. What the hell was he doing?
But this was Dakota, and she sounded so lost and scared. It had to be important if she was calling him, especially at two a.m.
“Sweetheart, take your time and tell me why you called.”
Dakota couldn’t tell him why she really called. She couldn’t admit it was because she was still in love with him and wanted him to chase away all her fears.
“I-I n-needed to hear y-your voice and t-tell you th-thank you for s-saving my life.” She hiccupped again, trying to cover her quiet sobs.
“His heart plummeted even further. “Aw, Dakota you never have to thank me. I’m just so thankful fate intervened and I was travelling down that road at the exact time you needed me. How are you doing? Your voice sounds amazing. Francesca told me you were making great progress. I’m very impressed. How are you feeling?”
She was filled with delight knowing he was sincerely impressed with her progress. She wanted to fill him in on everything she had accomplished and how hard she had worked.”
“I am up and w-walking again. W-well, not what everyone w-would consider w-walking, but I’m up.”
He could picture her face tight with concentration as she took those first steps and the smile that must have followed.
“C-Caden …?”
“Yeah, I’m still here. I was just envisioning you up and about. Take your time; tell me what other strides you’ve made.”
“N-nothing. Just … th-thank you and t-take c-care.” It would be so easy to talk to him for hours, but this had been a mistake. She shouldn’t have called. It hurt too much to love someone you couldn’t have. For her own sanity, she had to end this now.
“Dakota? Dakota, are you there?” Caden pulled the phone away and looked at it. She had hung up.”
I'm now a new fan of Anne Marie Citro.

An Excerpt from the Book

The young man’s chin stuck out. His back stiffened, his gaze glued to Sam. “You? You’re just a rodeo washout.”
Sam stood his ground. The young man’s narrowed eyes screamed for someone to kick some sense into him, and Sam wanted to be that person. Since he recognised Sam, he was probably a local. Didn’t mean he could act like a jackass.
Affrica ran a hand along his arm, distracting him from his thoughts. “Let’s just go,” she said.
Walking away wasn’t Sam’s style, and he held the guy’s stare, challenging him to make the first move. Please do.
The guy looked away first and leapt into the crowd with his mates. Smart move.
With Sam’s arm still tight around Affrica, they wove past the herd, closing in on a staircase that vanished behind a wall.
Halfway up the steps, he stopped in the shadows, giving them complete isolation. She stood by his side, green eyes dominating her pale face. Behind the wall, the music reverberated, but at that moment, the two of them were all that mattered.
“You all right? Did that jerk hurt you?” His fingers pressed into the soft flesh of her arm and the sensation of her skin against his sent fire blazing through him. He’d intended to simply ask her if she was okay, but his pulse was raging, and being close to Affrica in that moment felt right.
She shook her head. “Yeah, I’m fine. You don’t need to get into fights on my behalf, but thanks.”
Her skin burned beneath his fingertips, messing with his head. It had been a long time since he had been compelled to protect anyone. Yet something about Affrica made him want to guard her. To cover her in cotton wool and keep her safe.
Sam pitched a hand against the wall above her shoulder and inhaled her honeyed fragrance mixed with hints of crisp citrus. What had she done to him? They hadn’t even ordered dinner and already he was contemplating kissing her. Tone it back, man.
The rise and fall of Affrica’s chest quickened, and the fire inside him dove south.
An abrupt cacophony of giggles erupted from farther down the staircase. Sam didn’t glance at the strangers; he couldn’t pull his gaze from Affrica’s parted, glossy lips. He wondered if they tasted as sweet as they looked.
Affrica’s attention was drawn to the people who stomped up the stairs as they passed, a frown capturing her brow. She slipped out from under his arm. “Let’s get going.”
He battled the fumes in his head and stared at the way the fabric of her dress rode up the backs of her thighs, dancing across her butt, teasing him. Girls had always vied for his attention, but he’d never wanted any of them the way he did Affrica. Was it because she wasn’t jumping all over him but playing hard to get? He adjusted his belt buckle and strode up after her, taking two steps at a time.

Special Feature: Character Profile

Character profile of Sally
Sally is a young woman from Ireland, a passionate motorbike rider who takes part in desert rallies. Her parents own a hotel in Westport where she works during the season, but the rest of the year she tours the world on her bike. She’s short and curvy, with red hair and blue eyes. She’s rather carefree and very bubbly, she enjoys all aspects of life, and she is a bit adventurous; she’s got it into her head to find some passionate Arab or Turk to marry.
During her stay at the dig, though, she starts understanding many things: first, that history, which she’d never cared about, is a fascinating subject – and second, that the young men she starts flirting with only play with her feelings. And finally, she realises that what she wanted all along was a mature man who really cares for her and behaves lovingly and protective towards her.
She is by no means a helpless little girl, though: with her quick brain, her courage and her knowledge of modern technology, she saves the day when things get dangerous. Chapter 10
It had been two full days, and the reporters were still outside my house.
Louise and I took cover indoors. I’d planned to keep her home from school anyway for a full week after the accident, and I’d asked for sick days at the hospital. Thankfully we had a private fully-fenced backyard with tall trees, so we were able to go outside with Leo and get some fresh air in a safe place with no cameras pointed at us.
One good thing came from our self-imposed lockdown: We had plenty of time to get creative with crayons. Over the course of two days, Louise drew dozens of pictures of her visit to heaven, and I tacked each one to the wall outside her bedroom.
To a stranger, they might have looked like any other drawings by a five-year old because they were images of colorful rainbows and yellow suns, trees and tall buildings—just like what she’d described to me in the park. But to me, I saw something more.
Each time she finished a new picture, she handed the page to me and said, “This isn’t as good as the real thing. I don’t think I can draw it.”
“Would it help if you had something better than crayons?” I asked, encouraging her to continue. “What about paint?”
“That would be good.”
“Let’s go to the art store tomorrow,” I suggested.
In the meantime, she drew hearts everywhere to surround herself and her grandfather, who held her hand wherever they were—in the sky above the clouds or in an orchard with sunlight filtering through pink apple blossoms or rabbits in the tall grass. I could almost hear the sound of insects buzzing, grass swishing against my legs…
And she always drew a mustache on her grandfather.
By the end of the second day, the entire hallway was papered with Louise’s colorful crayon illustrations, but now she was painting with oils on canvas—using an easel I’d purchased at the art store.
I spent a lot of time in the hallway, studying her creations, which she produced at an alarming rate. She drew birds and trees and meadows with colorful wildflowers and sparkling drops of dew. Oceans with turquoise water, dolphins and seagulls. Mountains with white, snow-capped peaks. Sunsets with spectacular clouds and silver linings.
On the third day, when I woke at six am to the sound of rain pelting against my window, I donned my bathrobe, went to the living room and peered through the slats in the blinds. To my relief, the street in front of my house was deserted. The reporters and news vans had departed.
Knowing my sister was an early riser on school days, I called her. She told me to turn on the television because it appeared we were no longer the top news story on every station. We’d been bumped aside by an earthquake in California the night before. I wasn’t happy about the devastation, of course, but I was thankful to have our privacy back.

Book Tour with $10 Giveaway: A Queen From The North by Erin McRae and Racheline Maltese

A Queen From the North
A Royal Roses Book
by Erin McRae & Racheline Maltese
Genre: Contemporary Romance

It may be the 21st century, but in a not-so-united kingdom the wounds of the Wars of the Roses have never healed. The rivalry between the Yorkish north and Lancastrian south has threatened to pull the nation apart for over 500 years.

While the modern world struggles with fractures born of ancient conflict, Lady Amelia Brockett faces far more mundane problems. Known to her family as Meels, this youngest daughter of a Northern earl is having the Worst. Christmas. Ever. Dumped by her boyfriend and rejected from graduate school, her parents deem her the failure of the family.

But when her older brother tries to cheer her with a trip to the races, a chance meeting with Arthur, the widowed, playboy Prince of Wales, offers Amelia the chance to change her life -- and Britain's fortunes -- forever. Hunted by the press -- and haunted by Arthur's niece who fancies herself the kingdom's court witch -- Amelia finds herself adrift in a sea of paparazzi, politics, and prophecy.

With few allies beyond her allergic-to-horses sister-in-law, her best friend who has a giant crush on the prince, and the cute young receptionist at Buckingham Palace that calls himself her Royalty Customer Service Representative, Amelia must navigate a perilous and peculiar course to secure Arthur's love and become A Queen from the North.
